Depart Aotearoa Lodge at 8.30am.
Cross the range south of Whitianga. Walk the easy path to the 309 Kauri Grove of majestic mature trees.
Opportunity to ride the bush railway at Driving Creek. ( own expense ) Time to browse the quality craft shops at Coromandel town.
The road north predominately follows the coastline. Spectacular scenery of craggy rock outcrops, beautiful old pohutukawa trees ( flowering Nov/Dec ) Hauraki Gulf islands, bird life & sometimes dolphins!
Relax awhile at Port Jackson. Call in to the quaint Colville General Store, that sells nearly everything !
Return journey through Matarangi, a developing holiday resort.
Hear fascinating history of early gold mining Kuaotunu and through Wharekaho, location of the ancient pa site of the Ngati Hei people.
Return to Whitianga at approx. 4.30pm.
